rm -fr ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/org.libreoffice.script.savedState/
 
すると直ります。

今日から学会

今日から神戸入りして学会に参加します・・・とはいっても、今回は発表はありません(今年一年間は研究の完成に集中することにしていますので)。5年ぶりの発表しない神経科学大会です。

新幹線の中は、解析コードを書く一人ハッカソン状態になりそうです。論文はもうすぐ投稿したいです。

Mac OS X でハードディスクが一杯になってしまうとき

セミナーや学会前で動画満載のKeynoteプレゼンテーション(数百MBとか)を作っているとき、アプリケーションがファイルの古いバージョンをバックアップとしてすべて保存しておくために、ハードディスクの残り容量が2~3GBまで減少してしまうことがあります。

こんなとき不可視フォルダの/.documentrevisions-v100を削除するのも一興なのですが、スーパーユーザーで不可視フォルダを消すのはなんだかちょっと、というときには、問題になっているKeynoteファイルを一度外付けメディアにコピーしてハードディスク上のオリジナルのファイルを削除すると、それに付加する古いバージョンファイルが全て削除され、無駄に使われていたディスク領域が復活します。

高校時代の同窓会が 2

クラスの同窓会から帰ってきて次の日は、部活(吹奏楽部)のOB会がありました。

いつも毎年この時期に、現役部員たちは年に一度の定期演奏会を開催しているので、それに合わせての集まりでした。今年は学校創立120周年を記念してOBとの合同演奏があったので、同窓生の中には事前の練習に参加して本番の舞台に上がって演奏した人たちもいました(私も楽器と時間の都合がつけば参加したかったです)。演奏会では、当時の顧問の先生が登場して一曲指揮をしたり、ロビーにはこれまでの活動の写真やコンクールでの賞状などが展示されていて、当時を思い出した懐かしい気分になりました。あの頃は本当に、部活のために学校に行ってたようなもんでしたよ。

そんなわけで、今年の連休は高校時代に戻ったような時間を過ごしました。

高校時代の同窓会が・・・

塩原温泉で1泊2日であったので参加してきました。同級生だけでなく、当時の担任の先生も参加してくださり、夕食の宴会での各人の近況報告では、あの頃の教室の雰囲気が再現されて、とても懐かしく幸せな気分になりました。

当時、応援団に所属していた友達のリードで、久しぶりにみんなで校歌や応援歌を歌ったのも楽しかったです。やっぱり男子校はいいな。

みんながそれぞれの分野で活躍しているのを知って、またがんばろうと思いを新たにした同窓会でした。

論文書き方いまむかし

小説家は小説を書くのが仕事であり、映画監督は映画を作るのが仕事だとすれば、研究者は何をするのが仕事でしょう。「研究をする」というのは確かにそうかもしれませんが、上の職業の例になぞらえた私の定義によれば、「研究論文を書いて世に出す」ということになります。実験や調査という意味での「研究」は、そのための長い長い準備に過ぎません。

練習台(芸術家風に言えば「習作」?)となる論文を昨年2つ書いたおかげで、今書いているメインの論文の1つがスムーズに書けるようになりました。論文はある程度コンスタントに書いていないと勘が鈍ります。論文を書くときに、むかし(大学院生の頃)は、英語ネイティブと思われる研究者の書いた似た内容の論文を探して、その表現を真似て書いたりなどと、今から思えば非常な努力をしていたのですが、今はとりあえずもう自分の表現で適当に書いてしまいますね。外国での生活で英語が身に付いたというのもありますし、表現を調べたかったらウェブで簡単に検索できるというのもあります。

育児中の研究者のための時間マネジメント術

いろいろ方法を試してみたのですが、結局のところ、夜は子供と一緒に早く寝て(10時とか)、朝は早く起きて(4時とか5時とか)、子供が起きてくる間の2時間程度を自分の時間にあてる、というのが良さそうです。

私はたいてい、この時間を原稿の執筆、講演のスライド作り、データ解析のためのプログラム書きなどに使っています。

出勤前にその日しなければならないことの一部が終わっていれば、気持ちの上で余裕ができるのが良いです。

あの日のことと、顕微鏡

3月11日といって思い出すのは、やはり4年前の震災のことです。
当時はうちも子供がいなかったのですが、親となった今では、震災で子供を失った方の悲しみがよくわかります。

これは単なる偶然なのですが、今日はさきがけで買った二光子顕微鏡の設置作業の日でした。
自分の顕微鏡をもつのはイメージング研究者としてのささやかな夢だったので、うれしいですね。
まさに我が子が生まれたのと同じような喜び(と責任?)を感じています。

近況

京都「ほんやら洞」全焼、残念です

京都の名物喫茶が今朝全焼したとのニュースを聞いて驚いています。

学生時代はここから今出川通りを渡ってすぐのところに住んでいましたので、かなり頻繁に利用していました。
ランチも安くておいしかったし、「鳥の朝鮮焼き」も辛くてうまかった。
試験前や実習のレポート提出前は、よく2階で勉強していました。

本当になつかしくて、ただただ残念です。
